Just wondering what a standard dose of Metacam is?
Had a call from the vet, and the specialist has said there's arthritic change to Scaredygoo's hips and lower spine. He's also suggested a new dose!
Originally, the vet gave me the cat solution (0.5 mg/ml) asked me to give him 0.1 ml once a day. The specialist has recommended six times that! He's told me to dose 0.3 ml of the same solution twice a day! It's a massive jump! Has anyone else had doses that high?

Standard dose for cat strength is usually 1 drop or 0.05ml once a day, rising to up to 3 drops a day for short periods. You really need to keep the dose as low as possible for longer term use and consider using it only alternate days or weeks. I would say there is usually less debate about metacam dosing, so this is quite surprising, especially from a specialist. Here's a thread where I was asking Maravilla about common dosage in Germany, and for once this information ties in with degutopia, so I would be very hesitant to do anything different from 0.05 to 0.15ml deguworld.proboards.com/thread/18068/limping-degu

Thanks - it didn't sound right to me. It was a massive leap and, being someone who is on anti-inflamatories long-term, I could see a massive risk! To be fair, the vet sounded very surprised too! I've only given him his usual dose this evening, and am currently giving him a break over the weekends when I can keep a bettr eye on him.
