hello, I got back from the vets a few hours ago. the vets told me that Chimi would be able to eat straight away and he may need the teeth filed back again in a few months depending on regrowth. my question is, does anyone have any experience of how long after having teeth done their degus started eating? my Chimi isn't eating anything but oats ATM and I'm concerned he won't be able to eat his food in which case I'll start panicking! maybe being paranoid/impatient but thought I'd ask!

Mine won't start eating straight away, normally the next day or a good few hours later, their mouth may be tender after being yanked open and teeth being g filed down. Try temping them with a piece of low sugar cereal like a shreddie or plain porridge oats or some sunflower seads hope this helps

If there only eating oats I'd say the mouth is tender so problally sticking to softer foods I'd say by tomorrow they will be eating as normal don't go overboard with the oats though

It depends on how the filing went. It can take a couple of days before they eat normally again. It is a good sign that Chimi is eating oats. Over the next couple of days, try tempting him with other foods as animalmadchloe suggests.
Give it a few days. If he stops eating the oats and won't eat anything else, then he might need to be prescribed a painkiller.
Please keep us updated.

Agree with the above some have started eating straight away others have needed a couple of days of soft food or treats before being back to themselves.
