I got Samson and Delilah on Friday Afternoon. On Saturday evening I found Samson dead at the bottom of the cage.
Samson showed no signs of being ill (from what i know about Degu). But both were/are very nervous, and would hardly move in their cage - especially not when I was in the room.
Delilah is stll not moving about her cage.
Samson showed no signs that he'd been attacked, or fallen.
They came from a rescue centre, but were apparantly both over 1 year.

Im so sorry for your loss Aquajen When pets are from rescue centres you never know how they have been treated, or what they have been fed. Dont blame yourself, you have given them the best chance you could but it is painingly unfortunate that they may have been ill before you got them. If you are worried about Delilah perhaps take her to the vet to be check over, but my guess to her being quite is because she has just lost her freind

It's with great sadness that I write this. Delilah was very lethargic this morning before our vet visit. Myself and the vet, knowing little about degu health, and with little being known, we decided that the kindest thing was to let her go and play with Samson.

i'm sure you did the right thing. if she was enduring the same conditions that eventually took samson's life, she was probably at the end of her rope herself. if the rescue center has any other degus remaining, i strongly suggest returning to adopt however many you can. it may have been too late for samson and delilah but you still have the chance to help other degus.

You really have had a rough start to keeping degus, and you have made a tough decision. Well done for doing what was best for the degu, as difficult as it was.
I agree with what has already been posted in that whatever was wrong with the degus was present before you gave them a new home, so dont blame yourself. You did as much as anyone could have.

My heart just breaks for you. How awful for you. Degus are such wonderful pets.
I was very, very lucky with my first and now her baby. I can only encourage you to not give up.
Keep us posted. We all care.

Have decided not to rush into getting anymore degu, and just see how things go with the rescue centre i adopted them from - they did say they were getting some more in, so it may be that in a few months time I home a couple. But for now I shall be degu less once more

I know that losing your degus is very shocking but can I ask why you deciding to euthanize your second Degu? I'm sure she/he was shocked and mourning over the other degus sudden death. Did the vet tell you it had any sort of illness?
