We had someone call us today to inquire about something they just noticed with their male degu. Apparently his belly is white and has black spots on it, something they never noticed before. Anybody have an idea what this means? It's new to me and nothing I've seen on any of our degus.

The spots could be from an old injury. Most scars on degus appear as dark skin (sometimes with a slightly greasy look/feel). If hair regrows over this, the hair comes through as dark. The belly on a degu is unusual in that it reflects ultra-violet light (thought to be part of the way they communicate, as degus can see UV light) so any small scars from sparring may look like black spots.
Not a definitive answer, but just one possibility....
