I feel so bad, I'm not sure how it happened, he was out and I went to pick him up which he's normally fine (not by his tail obviously) with and his tail came off. I know it's quite a common injury for goos but can't help but feel terrible, I really liked his little fluffy end of tail. He seems fine in himself have put him back in the cage and taking the sand out. A good inch has come off and I just feel terrible, I know it should dry up and he will chew it off but I don't suppose there's any chance it will grow back slightly? Obviously I will be on the look out for signs of infection but anything else I need to do or look out for?

Is the cut just as straight and clean on the side still attached? It looks like such a clean break in the photo it makes me think it has been trapped/ caught/ nipped in something. At least a clean break will allow it to heal nicely.
It won't grow back at all, it might even shrink back a little bit more as the end dries up and heals. Just keep an eye on it and make sure it is healing and he isn't fussing at it too much. You could try some dry antiseptic spray or antiseptic powder.
