Hello again folks, My newest query is about flea prevention. I have 3 dogs too so am very curious and concerned. I want to stay on top of the whole thing as we have had fleas in the past (before the degus came into my life) and they are a nightmare to get rid of . We also babysit a client's dog once in a while so really the possibility is there. I'd rather focus on prevention than an outbreak. I have heard of an 8 in 1 flea spray for small animals and their cages but do not know if it is available in Canada or even in Vancouver here. Any thoughts? Can Degus have garlic? I don't think they can . Please help.... Thanks as always, Erika

i wouldn't feed a degu garlic, just because i have no idea if it's safe for them or not. but they make flea powder, right? maybe you can mix some in with their dust bath?

That's a great idea. I know that someone here is also from Vancouver, so am hoping maybe they have found something here too. Maybe a specific brand or something. Thanks.

I am not sure about treating a degu for fleas, but you could treat the dogs instead. I use a liquid that is put onto the back of the dogs neck once every three months. It leaves the fur slightly sticky for the rest of the day, but is totally soaked in the next day, and is 100% effective at flea prevention! But we could also look into fashioning minature degu size flea collars!
