Thats good to hear.
Be prepared however that there may be some fighting when he is feeling better. He will have lost his dominance in the cage as he will no longer smell "male" so they may argue a bit, but since they know each other, its likely to only be brief.

Hi meg no problems there yet! We got Taquila first, and when we introduced Taco, he just let Taquila dominate him!Thinking they were both males i thought that normal, but even though Taquila has turned out to be agirl, nothings changed! She still mounts him and screaches at him as much as before he was neutered! Saying that, he has had a go at getting his leg over with her, so he cant be in that much discomfort. And she is quite happy to let him!(Tart!!)

My only male was castrated when he was 5 months old.. This was because we did not want anymore babies! The op went well, but a few weeks later we put one of his sisters in the cage with him, because he was getting lonely.. They had a passionate session and his penis popped out and would not go back.. We had to take him to the vets for an emergency op, which cost a fortune.. He is now enjoying life being fussed about by the 4 girls!

his thingy popped out and would not go back.. We had to take him to the vets for an emergency op, which cost a fortune.. Woops! My degu Marmalade had a similar embarassing episode. We found him with a somewhat red and swollen penis,so took him to the vet. Had to buy K Y Jelly to rub on it 3 times a day till it went away! He is now enjoying life being fussed about by the 4 girls! Thats most males idea of a good life isnt it? SUNSHINEMEG ;D

I just rang my local vet where i take my dog, and asked them if they had any dealings with Degus. He said he had but not castrated any , but he had done a chinchilla! He said he neutered him in the same way he would a ferret or rabbit. It wasnt easy explaining to different people at the vets to what i needed doing, but we got there in the end. Aimee

How much does it usually cost? I told my mom about this and she said it probably is expensive. I'd rather let my boys keep their man hood tho. hehe

Here in England it cost me £32. About as much as a rabbit castration.
