Ok I thought I was doing a good thing and bought frick and frat a new home. to get them out of the fish tank. but now my cat has taken a interest and bit off our pulled of the tip of frits tail! what do i do? do i need to put something on it? I think i will have to move them back into the old home. this one they can stick there tail out of and the cat will not leave them be. any suggestions on how to fix the tail and how to make a safer home. the cat is ready to become an out side cat! peg

I think the Dagus will take care of it's own tail, just watch that it doesn't show signs of infection. Unfortunately there is nothing you can do to repair his tail. Once they lose the end it's gone. Bad kitty.
I would think they would be happier in an airier cage than in the aquarium so you were doing a good thing. Don't know that I would have thought of the cat getting one of their tails. Keeping a cat away from something they find interesting is very difficult.

Hi Northerstar40.
You are right to be worried. It should be ok, but to be sure, take the degus to the vet who can take a good look at the tail. If you look on the website, you will see that Gromit doesnt have a tail. We rescued him from a garden centre where he had had the acident, they werent going to do anythin about the tail, and we knew from experience that if left, the tail can gradually die back up the length, and cause serious problems. Take Frit to the vet just to be safe.
