Alright, I'm very new to Degus, and I've never owned one until now. I just bought my first 2 male Degus, Lyric and Song. I put them in their prepared cage. They seemed to like the cage, but whenever they come in contact with each other, they will start placing their paws around each other rapidly, trying to get on top of each other, and then end up chasing each other, all whilst making a high chirping/squeaking sound. The pet store I bought them at said they were born together and have gotten along great, but I don't know if they're fighting or just playing. Can someone please tell me if they're fighting and if I should seperate them? Thank you!!

It sounds very much as if they are just adapting to their new environment by establishing dominance. Keep an eye on them, they should settle down, and the fighting should be minimal. keep an eye for wounds as well, they may happen, as long as they are not too severe, they will sort themselves.

Ditto Meg. Sounds like they may be feeling insecure right now. I think they will settle though. With no female around to vie for I would think two brothers would get along nicely.
I did note when Tanzania was younger she would climb up on her mom's back not for dominance but I believe for comfort. Perhaps there's a little of that going on too. She still does that when I put them outside at first, until she relaxes and gets busy eating grass etc.
Welcome and good luck with your Degus.

oh yeah, that's just wrestling. my degu boys do it all the time but they never hurt each other. it's just the degu dominance dance. (LOL). if they're making the chirping noise, you don't have to worry. it's when they start squealing and growling that they're actually being aggressive.
