As those of you will know who've read my other thread we've recently introduced two new degus to our family after one of our original pair died. All still seems well and the three boys all seem happy and certainly spend much of the time in a pile, There hasn't been any fighting which is a relief. However, I've recently noticed that they all seem to be getting wet fur. From the look and smell of it I think they are peeing over each other, I've not witnessed it but it certainly looks like pee. At first I thought perhaps it was just my original Degu Merry marking the others because he is the oldest and by far the largest, but he too has started to display damp fur patches. Anyone else witnessed this sort of behaviour or any ideas why they should do this. I know rolling in the sand bath is a way of mixing their scents but this seems a little extreme!

I have experienced this behaviour when introducing new degus on a number of occasions. It is simply the degus trying to make sure everyone smells the same, and what else do they have that smells?
Dont worry too much however, as they will stop it before too long!

Isnt it what they do also before mating?
