We just got a new degu today-female. We named her Zena. We needed a friend for our little baby Mira, who is not so little anymore. We were very fortunate to find a pet store that just brought in 6 new ones a couple of days ago and they looked about the same age as Mira. So I picked out the friendliest girl I could find. I had to sex them because the person helping us new nothing! Anyway, I put them in the cage together to watch them and it was like they had been friends forever. I sat and watched them for 2 hours and for the last hour and more they have been sleeping on top of one another in their house. It is so cute to see!!! And I am so happy that they get along together. We now have 3 cages of Degus, by accident. One with 2 males that get along perfectly, I guess because they are brothers, one with a pair (not our choice) and now one with 2 females. I plan on taking one set to my classroom to show my students for a few days. I am just so excited!

Im so pleased you are enjoying keeping degus so much. It seems you have a very good set up! Although can I ask if the females are withing smelling distance of the cage of males? as if the males think a female is around, they can fight for her without even meeting her, just keep it in mind anyway. When I brought Marmalade home for Gromit, they never fought, just like you described, they were just so happy to be together, so I know exactly how nice that is to see!
have fun

One of my ex boyfriends had 3 degus and one was a female and they never tried to have babies or anything. I wish I could have that luck haha.

I have now 3 females in same cage, and they are not sisters... I just put them in the same cage and everything was ok.
