Sasha has been weeing and drinking A LOT! Well, it kindof goes in stages, she likes to attack her water bottle and ends up drinking lots of water when doing that (very odd) it used to be much much worse but i changed the water bottle and now the water doesn't actually seem to be going down quickly but its only recently that I've noticed the huge patches of wee on her bedding, loads in one space and usually over about 5 areas in the cage, her wee is pretty clear so she is obviously drinking a fair amount. Her wee, when she goes on her wooden shelf (the wee usually covers a large space) dries extremely white. She gets fed the same as the others and none of them are having any issues. The others occasionally get some treats but not many but Sasha has stopped really getting any just in case. I've also noticed that her food bowls are taking quite a long time to go down or are being left untouched. Again, she gets the same as everyone else. She seems to be less interested in the rat rations seed mix for degus, she still eats the dried plants as far as I can see. She eats the dry nuggets but just very slowly.
Any ideas? x

Well, a typical sign for diabetes should be cataracts. Do you see any changes in her eyes? Any other thing? Weight loss or gain?
I have read or heart about a degu who also drank a lot of water and peeed a lot. The owner was also very concerned but it turned out that the degu played with the water bottle and just drank all the water that came out. Have you tried to use a bowl?
Drinking a lot could also mean a kidney problem and taking into account the high amount of wee and the white patches I would go and see a vet and probably have an ultrasound of her kidneys, ureters and urinary bladder. Urinary stones seem to be a typical problem in other small rodents (and rabbits) so why shouldn't it exist in degus as well? Don't panic, it is just an idea.
You mention that she eats her nuggets quite slowly. Have you observed any changes in this recently? I would not exclude a tooth problem either. Maybe the cool water helps to reduce pain?

Ah good point, there is no changes in her eyes. I weighed her last week and she had put on about 4g maybe since the beginning of june.
I meant she gets through her nuggets slowly, when shes eating them she eats them as quick as she normally does, she just doesn't get through them as quick as the others.
I'll try a bowl and see if it gets knocked over, they like to drag their bowls everywhere! Hopefully it is just that she plays with it and drinks what comes out, that does seem to be what shes doing!
