I want to put some branches in my Degu's cage. I can't find any shops that sell them for pets. Is it ok to collect some branches from a forest and use them. If so what should I do with them, should they be treated in some way? cheers

well..whn my degu's get here...they will be getting branches from my yard..i live way out in the country..and i know for SURE that they are NOT treated....
be sure that they aren't treated...
some types of wood are poisonous...so be careful what you collect!!!
I would reccomend fruit tree branches, willow...
I am speaking purely from experience with guinea pigs....soo..i could be wrong on this???

If you go to a site called www.degutopia.co.uk/ ... and do a bit of rooting around there's a toxic wood list on there, which should help you. I'd be very wary of bringing in wood straight from a forest though, kiln dried pine (from a DIY store) is ok, you could use this?

Branches from apple trees are a good choice. Make sure they are pesticide and bug free. Let them dry out before giving them to your Degus. My girls love apple branches.
