hanging bells in the cage?

I was working on a Beads& Bells horse necklace last nite. I was sitting in the Degu room with them and shook the necklace to see how the bells sounded. Both Degus got excited and ran to the front of the cage chattering to me! I'd given them large jingle bells before. They seemed to like them but I was surprised at their reaction last night. I suppose I could string some up to hang in their cage using undied leather ties. Anyone think of any hazards that might cause?

that seems like a great idea to me. there's a bell on the end of a chain with wood blocks on it in my cage, but the degus don't pay any attention to it.

I had one of those metal rods you can put carrots, wood blocks etc on that had a bell on the end. Neither of my Degus ever paid any attention to it. Not even to the food. I took the bell off and gave it to Tanzania. She carried it around for awhile then buried it in one of her treasure troves. Plays with it more now that it's not on the stick! Think I'll try stringing some of the large 1" Christmas bells up and see what they think.

The biggest hazzard I can think of would be to your ears! lol

I hung a string of five bells on a leather lace with knots in between bells. It runs the length of the cage. So far they both checked it out and chewed on the leather a bit. They aren't as interested in the bells as I thought they'd be. I located the string next to and above their feed dish so they ring the bells as the go to eat. Certainly doesn't bother them!

my guinea pigs have bells and "link a do's" hung around thier cage for fun....some of them enjoy ringing them!! I wil have to check them out for the degu's!!

I have a "giggling hamster" toy..it is a treat dish..wonder if they would like it?
