Has anyone ever seen a C&C cage?? I use these with my guinea pigs & some of my bunnies.... www.cavycages.comNow, I know the "holes" in the regular grids would be too big...but what about the wire mesh grids?? I know they climb..so there needs to be a GOOD top on it.... What sort of cages do you guys reccomend?? I have a "spare" marichiro or superpet (SP?) cage..(the HUGE ones!) but they have plastic bases.... ...and I have TONS of the plastic hamster cages with tubes and all..but I see that degu's like to chew...besides those cages don't get much ventilation, and I know that in the sense of ventilation, degu's are a LOT like guinea pigs!! My friend made me a custom chinchilla cage (i will have to show you guys the pics) and I am HOPING to get ahold of him to have him make me a smaller version for the degu's.. what size do you guys reccomend?? I am getting 2 males, housed together FOR now...but they fight..so they willl prolly end up being seperated any advice on the new cage would be greatly appreciated! thanks in advance!! Jess & the zoo

Some very nice looking cages on that site. Are the baskets plastic or metal? Would have to be a substantial metal wire or knowing my Degus they would be out of the cage within a day!
My Degu Girls live in two of the SuperPet Chinchilla First Cages stacked vertically. I had problems with them chewing through the base so I made a glass base for the cages to sit on. I posted pictures in the thread " Building Degu Condo pics".

the grids (baskets?) are made of thick wire..sometimes with a plastic coating..but I bought all of my grids just regular "chrome" with no plastic there are grids with just a mesh..that they prolly couldn't get ahold of.... the coroplast is currogated plastic...& I am PRETTY SURE they would eat it!! I really need to figure out what type of cage to build.. I have nice cages marichioro cages..but i don't really have any extras..cause my new pigs are quarantined in those.. degus like to climb right?? so would it be better to make the cage "taller" than wider?? with lots of shelves?? I was thinking a 2 foot X 1 foot base..with maybe about 3 feet tall to climb??

Check out my post regarding building a Degu Condo. Might give you some ideas. They do like to climb.
