I'm currently looking into getting a pair of rescue degus, and am looking at housing first, I have several critter 2 cages (see pic below), and want to check that this is indeed suitable.. Ignore the bits in the cage. Also - any advice on things to put into the cage? I plan on removing the shelf - simply so that they have more space to climb about in.

Also - MY rats live in my garage, am uncertain of the exact temperature of it on a general basis, but would the Degu's be able to live in a garage?

Hi Aquajen. The cage is fine beeing all metal(Degus will chew through anything else!) but does seem a little small for 2 degus. You could extend the cage a little on top as Degus prefere hight rather than width. I think it depends where you live to wether you keep them outdoors or not, but if your rats are ok out in the garage then i should imagine the degus would be too.

Hi Jenna!! * waves* Meg has her degus in one of these cages. Degus love leap n' ledges, so I'm told (I don't have any of my own yet, but have been researching for quite a while). Also ropes, stones, apple branches if you can get hold of them, and things to gnaw. A wheel is pretty much essential too, (solid same as for rats, but degus will gnaw plastic).

That cage would work with lots of extra shelves and toys put in. That IS the cage I have, Han is right, and the boys love it when there is plenty to do! i would keep the shelves in, as this gives them more floor space, but other than that its good!
The only issue you may have is if the degus dont know each other, in that case the cage wouldnt be big enough to get the two safely introduced.
