Hi, they will adore them! We have those in our cage, and they serve a dual purpose - they initially act as more interesting ramps, but they also LOVE to chew them, so they only last about 4-6 months before they have such big gaps in, they don't work as ramps anymore! As long as you don't mind replacing them every now and again, go for it:-)

Thanks for the quick reply. Wooden ramps just look so dull, and take away lots of floor space. I'm aiming for small gaps between floors to make as much area as possible for play etc. I don't mind replacing them at all... Also heading to screwfix today to pickup a reel of rope to make some ladders and nets etc. This cage is going to be better kitted out than my house!

Sounds fab, you'll have to post some pics once you're done:-)

If you have degus that like to hop everywhere rather than just walk, you'll probably need to replace the hooks in those ladders with stronger things. If hamsters and mice can kill the hooks just by bouncing, I'd have thought it very easy for a degu anyway. Thankfully the wood is soft pine, so it's pretty easy to just screw in bigger versions of the same, which are much better at weight bearing. I could probably fish out a modded one of mine to photo if needed

When I first made one of our cages I put ladders from the floor to each shelf, within about 10 seconds of putting the goos in they had literally thrown them to the ground. I took the hint and took them out of the cage ;-)

I went with the option of self-made rope ladders. They seem quite happy with them, but often now just jump between floors!

We had the same experience as Kins, they simply wrecked the ladders and now hop/climb the bars between floors. Maybe it depends on the personality of the goos.

I love these bridges, all of ours have them. They regularly go on sale at zoo plus, so I stock up and then replace as necessary. I like the fact you can also use them to provide perches. Great little things for the price

Totally agree saddlers. I've got one of them snaking up one side if the cage so they can walk or jump right up to the top. Love chewing on them too!

We have ramps, and while it may "take up" some of the floor space below it, remember that a ramp is also floor space. A running degu runs right down the ramp without breaking stride and keeps going across the next level. Put the ramp against a wall, and the space underneath becomes a great little hidey-hole or additional nest area, a good place to hide treats or put that stack of twigs for them to find and rearrange and chew. But mostly, ramps extend the running distance within the cage.
