Hi. I went on the Zooplus website to check out the degu food Sunshinemeg recommended (looks good ) and I got to looking at the cages.... Has anyone tried any of their cages? I thought the "Tommy 82 T3" (now there's a name that rolls easily off the tongue ) looked really good as it looks as if it would come apart easily to clean, and has nice deep bases on each level to contain the "poo-kicking" game . Although the ramps etc are plastic, my degus don't seem to bother chewing anything other than their bamboo tunnels and their wooden and stone chew toys, so that hopefully wouldn't pose a problem. At the moment I've got 3 of my degus in a home-made concoction of a converted parrot cage with a chinchilla cage on top and a connecting tunnel on the outside. Since this photo was taken I've changed the wire tunnel for a ferret tunnel with rope running through (so they've got something to grip on as they climb up). The chinchilla cage has an acrylic panel on the base to stop "bumble foot". This arrangement is ok, but it's a bit unwieldy and as my health declines I'm finding the weight of the chinchilla cage a bit much when it comes to cleaning it So...I just wondered...if anyone has tried the cages from Zooplus, what's the verdict?

Hi there. I've not got that cage myself.... but I know people that have bought it for their rats! The general verdict is that they're pretty good cages, and good value, but the clips are pretty fragile and the instructions are hopeless. (If you do get a cage from Zooplus, soak the clips in hot water before trying to attach them/ build the cage).
I would be wary about the gnawing thing myself though, a friend's rats hadn't gnawed anything and have now destroyed 3 plastic based cages so far.... so just a warning...lol.....

Hi Han Thanks for the advice - especially about the clips If they started to gnaw the bases, I suppose it would be ok if they only gnawed downwards on the top two - lol! Hmmm...I'll have to think about it... Cheers Roz
