where do you get those square wire hay racks like sunshinemeg has in her degu's cage? i've tried several things, most recently a hay manger, but the bars are too far apart, so they just pull all the hay out and then bite the bars of the hay rack. >/ should i just give up and let them bite whatever they want? i'm getting really frustrated trying to break them of this bar-chewing habit.

Thats a great idea! Mine use the hay rack as a pastime, like how many times can you lift it and make it bang, or lift it of and drag it around the cage! It keeps them busy i supose...

Glad you found one! I bought mine in a garden centre, its attached to the cage from the outside using cable ties, that way they cant hurt each other with it, and they always know where to go for treats! They love it!

I think ill try that, putting it on the outside. I tryed it once when i first bought it, but it didnt seem like they were using it, so i put in the inside of the cage. Now they know where it is, they might use it like that. Thanx Meg

i'm planning on keeping mine inside because i purposefully placed in the area they chew the bars most often. since they can't really chew the bars of the hay rack, i'm hoping it will help break them of that habit.

My hay rack is inside the cage, attached to one wall with cable ties, since its against the cage on the inside, they cant get at the ties! It works as a perch as well then!

Great idea! I have one just like those, but it´s bigger. I didn´t know that somebody use those as hay racks... Before I put all hay to bottom of terrarium, but now it stays more cleaner ja fresher.
