Hello everyone,
I am asking for some advice on behalf of a friend. One of her degus gave birth to 4 pups. Two survived and she lost two. My friend has been hand rearing them and feeding them with the correct equipment the vets. She feeds them every time she should do and getting little sleep. But she does not mind about the sleep bit as she loves her degus to bits. One of the babies died yesterday evening and the other one is still alive but lost 1 gram overnight. She has opened her left eye and nearly opened her right eye. She is crawling, passing urine and poo and a bit squeaky and warm. She should be butting on between 1-2 grams a day. Any suggestions on what my friend can do as she is really fighting to do her best to keep her alive.
Thank you in advance.

I am afraid I am not going to be able to give you any real advice, but there are others on here who have experience with pups, hopefully one of them will be along shortly.

Hello! I hand reared my degu, Moose, from a couple days old. Is the degu not wanting to eat? And that's why he's losing weight? The only thing I can tell you is what I did for mine. When I first took him home, it was hard to get him to take the milk (I used powdered goats milk, btw. It's amazing stuff!) What I did (which I think was a recommendation on another degu page) was make some plain chamomile tea, and add a couple drops of pure honey. It was tasty and got him used to the syringe, and the honey gave him a much needed energy boost. After that I think I started adding in milk until I could get him to just drink the milk without the tea. And then for about a week I think, once a day I'd add a drop or two of honey to the milk until he was out of the clear. (Let me add though, my degu was severely attacked and had injuries I was treating and he was in really bad shape. I'm not sure what kind of condition your friends is in)
Sorry I can't think of any other advice to give! If you have any more questions let me know, and ill try my best to help!
It's hard but it's so worth it. My little baby will be 3 years old in a few months!

How much should they weigh?? I have my own thread but still no clear answers, we had a family of Degus dropped off at my work with no history or information. She had 4 babies and now all are dead but 1, we are thinking the baby is about 3 weeks old but she only weighs 16 grams and that weight has not changed in 3 days. I have seen her noble at food but she does not have a big it erect in it and her mother has zero interest in her. She was acing different today and kind of lethargic so I am worried she is not getting nutrients like she needs. Any help would be awesome!!!
