I've currently got a large metal wheel with very small mesh running surface, I've spotted this is pets at home but just wanted to make sure it was ok as it's not completely flat. Didn't want to spend money on something that wasn't too good for my boys.

The slats on the wheel provide grip so your degus won't slip while running. Zooplus does a similar wheel, as well a chunkier one which withstands your average beaver of a degu better (said wheel was also £10 last time I looked).
The P@H one is built solidly enough though, so if they aren't big chewers you should get good use out of it! Just check the bearing connection for any knots in the wood that could break under the stress.

I thought it would be ok just wanted to double check before I brought one. Didn't really want to wait for one to be delivered as our new goo has been in his cage without a wheel for a few days now and it's not long enough for him to have a good run around, although he should be out if it tonight and into the large cage

I bought one of those recently to give it a try, and it has lasted a lot better than I thought it would, it has the odd nibble, but is much quieter than my others.....you can only hear the little patter of tiny feet!! It is in a cage with 3 degus, and they also have access to a flying saucer and a Savic wheel, and they mainly choose the saucer or the P@H one. I also tried a silent spinner, but the plastic broke on that one in no time, it is now suspended via cable clips...but still works

I bought the fairly-degu-destruction-safe wheel from Zooplus. It does stand the constant chewing, but after about 5 months, it just fell apart (the foot started to get unstable). I made a flying saucer out of it hahaha.

I seem to have a habit of getting faulty wheels through (either that or my boys are so fat they just can't withstand the weight ) so the destruction-proof one served as a hideaway when it broke, it only lasted about a month before there was practically nothing left... My lot are ridiculous for chewing though the other wheel lasted less than 2 weeks of chewing! When they get it in their minds there is no stopping them *sighs*.
