Hello, I am new to the forum, but have had degus for over a year now. I am still learning about the little fellas everyday. I got George (2) and Stuart (1 1/2) in the fall of 2011. Sid and Will, who will be a year old in February, joined them last spring after the 2 pairs got to know each other in adjacent cages. Having 4 males has livened things up when they argue over oatmeal, but each night I always find them snuggled together. A concern that I have is the varied opinions on how often they should have fresh veg, so further thoughts on that would be appreciated. I usually give a variety of veg once a week, with sometimes an extra tidbit a few days later, but am curious what other people do.

I think once or twice a week is normal I'm trying to introduce my goos to a 50/50 diet, so they get slightly more than goos on a complete mix. Welcome to the forum! I'd love to see some photos of your goos, so upload some pics soon!! Feel free to ask any questions you like, we don't bite

Thanks and I will try to get pics uploaded soon. I will be interested to see if the 50/50 works. Stuart tends to sniff the camera, so need to sneak pics when he is not ready to explore. He is my more curious one and has taught Sid some of his tricks.

Welcome ahd Sounds like you did a good job getting your groups of boys together It's safe to give them veg every day. The only limiting factor is the sugar content, which you can check out in this table deguworld.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=food&action=display&thread=15602 You are pretty lucky if your degus will eat their veg fresh, most of us find our degus will only eat dried veg. Even healthier than most human style veg are leaves and other plant matter, this is what degus eat in the wild and it's very good for them to offer this type of food in captivity every day. You may find things like dandelions and carrot tops in human markets, or you can collect or grow your own, or find them on the internet. There are lots of threads in the diet section about this, please feel free to ask any questions

Welcome to the forum, It is great to hear of a successful male pair introduction, it gives the rest of us hope, because it is no easy thing to do...would you be willing to explain what methods you used, and how you knew in the adjacent cages they were getting along, because I am sure it is information a lot of us would really appreciate
