Hi everybody just thought i would tell you a bit about myself. I live in the Forest of Dean in Gloucestershire, which at the moment is covered in snow. I have got 8 degus 7 females Pebbles,Smudge,Minnie-me.Phoebe, Daisy-may,Abbie and Poppy also 1 male Houdini. Minnie-me,Phoebe and Houdini are the parents of the others. We thought we had all females until one morning we got up to 7 pups. Pets at home made a mistake. But we could not part with Houdini so we took him to he vet for the snip. The parents are 3 1/2 years old.I wonder if someone can help me somebody has give me a large plastic bottom of a cage about 36"x18"x8" and i would like to fill it up so they can have a dig in it, but i don't know what to fill it with could someone tell please.I also have a cat who is 12 years old called Heidi. Looking forward to hearing from you. June

Hi June, welcome to the forum and wow! That is a lot of degus! I think I remember somebody saying they used equal parts of clay, straw and something else as a digging substrate, here's the link for it deguworld.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=Cage&action=display&thread=15992 Before I forget as well (as I may be lynched for forgetting) we would absolutely love some pics of your girls, boy and Heidi too! ;D

Hi Forestangel You might need to experiment with digging materials to find what suits you, straw, hay, shavings, hemp, sand, dry peat, coconut hulls, megazorb etc can all be used. I just have straw and hay in our digging box now, because everything else that was smaller just got dragged/ dug out of the bottom entrance.
