Hi there, I've been meaning to join for a while but I've only just got round to it. I got 2 male degus last March and it was the best decision I ever made. They were rescued from a home where they were never handled and were fed hamster food. Sadly I lost Nibble a few months ago because of a respiratory infection. But his brother (of sorts), Squeak, is doing really well.I hate having squeak on his own but he is Quite old now and a bit of a grumpy old man so I doubt he'd accept any new degus. He hasn't pined for Nibble at all and he gets plenty of human company(he has my bedroom to mess up now). I might think about getting a few more next year (though once I start college ill be working with the Degus there) but for now its just me and Squeak

Welcome to the forum, we have a few people on here in a similar situation, some people try and re-introduce to a younger male or female goo, but if you go the female route, you would need to get Squeak neutered, whilst others keep a solitary goo, I think company is the preferred option due to their social nature, but as long as he is a content solitary goo I think he should do fine.

Hi , I will try and post some pics of him at some point I am thinking about possibly getting another pair of males and introducing them to Squeak, but before I do I will have to get a bigger cage because the one Squeak is in wouldn't be big enough for three. I want to try building my own cage aswell so if I get more I will definatley try.

It is a fun adventure to undertake, building your own cage. The best part is when you put the degus in and watch as they explore. LOVE that part! Do let us know what develops for you.

I want to build a cage because I can't find a cage that's big enough for more than two goos that I actually like. I hate the cage I've got squeak in , its supposed to be a rat/chinchilla cage and it dosent have enough floor space. But it was the best cage I could find at the time.

No its not the p@h cage, thank god. I can't remember the make but I have always hated the cage. Its plenty of room for queak but was a bit small for the two of them. I planned to replace the shelves but never got round to it.
