Hi All,
I'm Andrew, and thought I'd introduce myself having just taken on 3 female Degu's! I've been after some for a few months now, however working for an animal charity my only intention was to adopt.
They are still settling into their home, and very shy and timid at the moment, one especially. I'm just leaving them be for the moment, and start the bonding process in a week or so.
I also have 6 mice I'm fostering which are little terrors! Currently redectoring a room specially for my goo's!
cheers

Welcome to the forum! And congrats on entering the mad world of goo-keeping! Feel free to ask any questions about your new friends, degus are weird (but wonderful) creatures so you can find them doing some odd things at times! I hope you'll join us on the main part of the board as we do like to have good fun I also feel obliged to ask that, once they're all settled in and getting to know you, would you take some pics of them and show us your little cuties? We do love pics here and also like mice, hint hint

Welcome to the forum, Siroldvolks (love the name), and congratulations on your three little girls! It sounds like you will have your hands full with mischievous mice AND degus to contend with. LOL! They will keep you busy! Will you be waiting to name the girls until you know them better?

Congrats on the new degus! I know how you feel about wanting to rescue critters - I adopted mine from an accidental litter. It feels good to help pets in need of good homes.

Thanks for the welcomes! Yes definitely looking forward to learning lots and spending plenty of time with them! I shall certainly get some pics up soon once they have settled a little bit , and not so shy! I'm starting to get a taste of their personalities, one is a bit smaller than the other two and very timid, sadly with a slightly shorter tail due to self harming - one is quite vocal and absolutely loves her wheel , and the last seems the most confident! Will be sorting out some names for them soon once I find something a bit more fitting. Their old names of Darcy, Dusty and Dee don't really appeal to me Although I'm useless at naming! Need to get a few more toys for them to enjoy, although I'm enjoying just watching them running round investigating their new home! deguconvert, the name siroldvolks - made up many years ago spending time in american chat rooms (as a brit, hence the "sir"!) and my long time interest in "old volks"wagons Although not so much now, just old british classic cars! A story behind every name and all..

Don't I know it! Mine pretty much tells it, LOL!
I have a friend that loves the old volks camping vans . . . she would peruse the internet for hours and hours looking at them. Finally she bought one a year ago and she loves it to pieces. They are great, well built vehicles!! What do you think of the 2012 Beetle?? My kids and I call them Rynobeetles because they have such long noses on them. Hee hee!

I have to say that I've never been a fan of the New Beetle even when they bought it out 10 years or so ago! Maybe its my interest in the days gone by and just enjoy things of the past My family always said I should have gotten a vw camper although I could never see it myself lol. I used to own a 1973 VW beetle, and used it for everything until the british weather got the better of it and it start to rot Well I've been making some progress with my new arrivals already , two of them have been quite happy to feed through the bars which is great! Occasional oats definitely seem to be a hit with them too

WOO HOO!!! That is wonderful progress! It feels so good, doesn't it?
I much prefer the original VW myself, but I have become more accepting of the beetles they brought out ten years ago. The 2012 version however . . . well . . . it just looks too much like they are trying too hard to take on a sporty look that mimics other sports car lines. Which to me ends up more like a "pinoccio is lying again" version, with a rolled over, flattened dome. Hmmm . . . maybe that is a good name for them . . . Pinoccio beetle. I'll have to bounce that off my kids, though I do honestly think that Rynobeetle is what it will remain. LOL!

Yeah, its nice to make progress! I got them some herbs today which went down a treat, and it was open door time taking from hand. I feel sorry for one who just hides and misses out Give it time. Yeah I think they are trying too hard now. I also wonder about the market really, and who its aimed at..it seems for the real beetle enthusiasts and I've only ever seen females driving them! As much as i used to like them, not my cup to tea It shall be ever known as rynobeetle! you know, if I ever seen one now that name will come straight to my mind...! ;D
