Can anyone suggest any good books on Degus? There was one that looked really good in our local p@h a little while ago, but i didn't have the spare cash to buy it that day, and when i was in today they didn't have any books on degus in store. I've had a look on their website, but its not listed. I've had a look online and there only seems to be a couple avalible, but i don't really want to buy one if it's not detailed. can't for the life of me think what the one i'd seen was called. So was just wondering if any of you guys have/know of good books on them that i might be able to buy, or maybe even know the name of the book that was in P@H thanks in advance for any help you can give

I have Degus, complete pet owners manual (the second one dyzired mentioned) and it is quite informational with really nice pictures. Not that good concerning diet but in other aspects very nice... I must have read it ten times at least I got it on ebay for around 10$ I think... It has 95 pages... The first one mentioned (How to care about your Degu) I ordered just a few days ago (used) so it hasn't arrived yet. I know it has only 32 pages but don't know anything further... I am also interested in more degu books but I am afraid this is all written in english anyway....

I think degutopia or Chloe Long, the degutopia person, published a book this year, or maybe last year. I like to think we have much more up to date info on housing and feeding, but I'm sure it's worth a look.

dyzired, i'd seen those two on amazon when i was searching, but wasn't sure how long they were etc cause they did't have a look inside option or any info or page numbers etc so wasn't sure if they would be worth getting or not, they did look like the best choices for the ones i saw tho. If you hade to pick one, which would you say was the better one? (don't want to buy too many books etc so close to xmas, still have other people to buy for, also want to save some spare money for degu treats/toys when i get them) Moletteuk, I'm pretty sure this site is more up to date etc than most books, and i'll probably use it for reference more than the book, but i just like books and its always handy to have something to reference to if the internet isnt available thanks for the tips on those books, if anyone has more info on those or any other good degu books, im eager to hear about them

The second one I mentioned is the one I'd get. The other one seemed like basically the same info.. But the second one seemed better put together. I can take pictures of the inside and give you a description of the contents and things if youd like

Thanks for the info I might try the e-book gotta be worth a look at that price. I couldn`t resist and bought ebook version. It cannot be printed (well, not the easy way at least ) and you need adobe digital editions (free) to read it... I made a mistake and didn`t make adobe authentication account so I can read it on just one computer but it is ok, I did manage to print it somehow ;D ;D I will make a little review when I read it...

There you go, easy reading ;D ;D The book doesn `t look modern, it looks like it was done in MS Word, but it`s inside what counts I liked it a lot. It is very informational and fun to read. It covers all the basics but i did found out few things I didn`t know. Like that degus use ears to regulate body temperature, they see only green and ultraviolet color etc... It covers health issues and diet thoroughly, there are no wooden cages mentioned in housing, it includes nice tips for taming degus too and just about anything else about goos on basic scale... Obviously, much of the text included is derived from Degutopia website but it is really nice to have it all "in one place". Anyway, I think it is definitely well worth the 6$ for ebook version. Paperback version (29$) is a bit expensive. If you want paperback, IMHO, you should buy "Degus:A Complete Pet Owner`s Manual" for around 10$ which comes much more better looking and with some really cool photos and is pretty comparable when it comes to content...

I have thought a lot about putting together a book from info all of you have come up with. Has anyone here done that yet?

But at least that is nonsense. Degus can see colours as we can. What is different that they have a shift in the spectrum so that they see ultraviolet (what we cannot see) and I assume that on the other end of the scala they have problems with some colours we can see in contrast. Also they cannot see/distinguish as much different colour tones as we can, because they only have two types of cones, we have three. Therefore their "resolution" for different colours is worse than our is. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cone_cell
