Just to confirm, don't be confused if you see the little sticky out bit, that is the urethral cone and girls and boys have it, it's all about the space between the two openings.
Behaviour is very similar for boys and girls, it depends more on their personalities.
I shouldn't think they'll be too disturbed at having wrong sex names, at least I hope not, because I'm always calling my girls fellas or lads because I was used to having boy hamsters and couldn't kick the habit!

Well . . . don't celebrate yet, I'm sorry to say. I've known a few owners from here that had male and female together for 2-3 years, thinking they were same sex as there were no babies and they had been told they were same sex, then suddenly one day . . . BABIES?? Sometimes they just don't mate, or at least not successfully, for a go long while. What changes I don't know, but . . . no babies isn't a complete guarantee that you have same sex goos.

Yeah... At the sanctuary I worked at, we had a pair of degus. They were a brother and a sister. We were told they wouldn't breed together since they were very smart and wouldn't breed with siblings. Well we had them for a couple years and seemed to ve true...and one day, shocking!... They bred. And then never stopped. And unfortunately this was all before I knew of this forum and there isn't any degu info in my area, so they didn't know how to sex them. I can't complain though. My boys came from there, and wouldn't be here without that mistake

Just be forewarned Danni . . . female degus are their most fertile and DRIVEN to be impregnated again, immediately following birth, and for the next four days. Many females will wait to give birth until night, so you may not be aware of the babies coming, and may not be able to prevent a second "piggy backed" pregnancy. Female degu pups in captivity are in general given a more consistent caloric intact than what may be available in the wild, and are often able to conceive as early as six weeks of age. Young male pups are able to impregnate any females as early as 13 weeks of age . . . possibly earlier. With this kind of fertility, they can multiply exponentially.
The first litter is hard to resist, but be saving up your pennies so that you will have a secondary cage in which to house the male as delivery day approaches. This way you can avoid a second litter in the next 90 day time frame, and save yourself from the stress of a neutering. Assuming that is, that you will want to keep some males and some females?
