Hi. So as some of you know, I have two degus - Ron and Harry. But now I'm thinking of adopting two more degus, Max and Aristotle - they are currently at the SPCA. They are brothers but live in separate cages because the one degu had to be taken away for two days due to an injury and when he was put back in with his brother they started to have serious fights. Therefore, they had to be separated. Their cages are side by side so that they can see, smell and chatter with each other and the lady told me yesterday that will cuddle beside each other. So does anyone think (with this info given) that with time and patience it'll be easy to reintroduce them so that they can live in the same cage? What would be the best way to do this as they already see and chatter with each other every day? The lady, at the SPCA, says it may be easier if they had a bigger cage. The ones they live in now are somewhat small. Once again, any advice is greatly appreciated! Thanks, Jenny

Well, I'm no expert on intros but I think this sounds very promising. They sound like they are already at the stage where they are ready to meet again - a short meeting in a neutral area is the next step. They might even have been seperated a bit prematurely, they might have only fought because one came back smelling funny from the vets.
They always need a big cage, and it only gets more important if there is some history of fighting. Could you sort something out for them and then go get them when you are ready?

Thanks Moletteuk! I think with re-introducing them will take time and patience. I definitely already have something set up for them and it's much bigger and nicer than what they have now and the cage is divided into two. Plus if I can successfully reintroduce them then the divider will come out and they'll have two of everything (even a flying saucer for each of them). My plan is to go and get them this weekend...Maximillian injured his leg overnight and had to be taken to the vet and he's on pain medication...the vet figures it's a sprain. Hopefully it doesn't get worse in the next few days and hopefully I'll be able to bring him and Aristotle home this weekend ...the SPCA told me he needs a follow up with their vet on October 29. I already made an appointment with my vet so hopefully they'll see this as me being ready to really take care of this little guy. I have to travel five hours to get them so it'll be a long trip home for them but they'll finally have their forever home after being at the SPCA for over a year!
