Hi everybody I'm Soo-Kyu (it's not my real name but anyways ) and I'm French. But yes, I come here, in a forum in english because, there's no good french forum about degus, and I really want to speak about mine and others with passionated people ! So, I'm soooo sorry for the mistakes I make, I really try to do my best, but sometimes, doing my best is not enough So, I will say few things about me and my baby boy : I'm 17 years old, but soon 18. I'm studying litterature in high school, and english is my favorite lesson. I hope to become a french and english teacher in Korea ^.^(Yay I know, strange ambition ) My degu is almost 5 months I think. He arrived at my house after the death of my little hamster (R.I.P) who died because of her exercice wheel. The vet tried to save her, but nothing to do, she died. My degu, LeeTeuk, helped me a lot to smile again after this event. He is really funny, and loves to sleep on me He loves hugs, and running everywhere in my bedroom. He is free on it most of the time, but doesn't do foolishness, because he is the best animal ever I'm totaly in love with him ! That's all Don't hesitate to answer questions or to correct me, and again, I'm sorry about mistakes ! Talk to you soon !

Hi Soo-Kyu, welcome to the forum It's lovely to hear a little bit about you and LeeTeuk, I'm sorry about your hamster. Have you considered getting a friend for Leeteuk?

Welcome to the forum, Soo-kyu! It is lovely to meet and and learn about you and your degu, Leeteuk.
You may not be aware that degus are colony/community animals, and as such they are healthier, happier animals when they have companions of their own kind. For that reason, we do encourage degu owners to keep their degus in twos or greater.

Thanks everyone I'm glad because this forum seems soooo good ^.^ Actually, I know that degus need to live in groups, but at the petshop, my baby was the only boy, and as he jumped into my hands when we opened the cage, I decided to adopt him and not two of his sisters. And after, I thought about taking a second male but not in a petshop, and we told me that it was a bad idea because they would have fight :/ So, I try to spend a lot of time with him. Right now, he is "sit" on me, and when I do my homeworks, he sit at my desk and "talk" with me, it's soooo cute ! He is acting like a dog sometimes ! When I'm walking on my bedroom, he follows me for example But I think a lot of adopting a second male but I'm affraid about fighting, because if they fight, I can't keep two degus that can't live together :/

There's always a risk that introductions won't go well, but at the same time, with a lot of time and patience, there's a good chance that they'll bond and become good friends! Sometimes adoption centers will let you take them as a trial to see if they will get along together, and if not, they will take them back.

Bonjour sookyu,
welcome to the forum.
Apropos your degu, as deguconvert already mentioned degus feel happier in groups. You can also neuter him and search him a female (or two). This is maybe easier and such a group is in my opinion more natural or more similar to degu groups we can find in wild.
Yes, unfortunately... several years ago I was in a French forum for a short while. I hope it could be possible to rebuild a good francophone community in future. There are at least some active owners from Quebéc and other French speaking countries...
