I like many of you have been taken in by the cute faces that stare out at your from a little cage in pets at home and have now aquired myself 3 little girl degu's. I did origionally only buy two but went back the next day for a 3rd one after reading stories of people finding lonely degus in pets at home. There was 3 left but i kept thinking what if someone only wants 2!!!!! How soft am i!
I got them just over a week ago and got a wire cage to house them in. After reading much of this forum after buying them on a whim and several days of an utter mess on the floor i decided to get my best mate to build me a new cage of which i have added a picture. These little creatures really do take over your lives. I however seem to be very lucky as my degu's are very friendly and quite happily come out of the cage for a stroke and are more than happy to sit on my hand. Any advice will be greatly appreciated!

Hello VTV113!! Welcome to the forum, and thank you for introducing yourself and your degus. I love the cage, it is wonderful! Well done! Bless your tender heart, thinking of that one that could be left alone. I am sure you will be blessed for it.

Welcome! Wow! You got the cage built fast - it looks great! You might like to have a look around the forum for ideas of more things you can do with it, toys, wheels, hammocks, ledges, and so on. If you put some pine edging on the front of the shelves, particularly a big one across the bottom, it will hold all the bedding in and cut the mess down even more

The Cage has a deep Shavings pit at the bottom for them to Dig in. Then there is narrowish self across the back that i may make a bit wider and then there is a ramp that leads them up to the top part which houses their wheel, food and water and bed as i know they like to sleep up high. Getting the cage done fast really helps when your best mates with a carpenter lol.

I have been told to put my dust bath in for my Degu's 3 times a week for half an hour. Do people do this or do people leave it in all the time? Your comments would be appreciated.

Some and some. Some people have found that degus can over use the dust bath and end up with dry flaky skin, others who have access to a dust bath all the time are fine. It's up to you really. I just give mine their's every few days, works for me. You could always try leaving in it and keep an eye on them and sift any poos/bits of crud out as and when, see how you get on. I think it's just down to personal preference really Welcome from me too great cage. Any pics of your little ones?!
