I know this seems like a strange question! We got four degus last week and I am already planning the first cage clean. They have organised their bed beautifully and I don't want to disturb it unless I need to. Our hamster used to poo everywhere but I don't know if degus are the same or if they keep their bed clean.

My goos don't sleep in any one place so they don't have a "bed". However, those that use the hammock, do poop in it. Also, when my goos had their babies and they were all sleeping in a "nesting box", they pooed in it but then would take whatever bedding was around (paper towelling, kleenex, etc.) and then put fresh bedding on top of the soiled bedding.

Mine don't poo very much in bed, they poo more where they eat and where they hang out.
If you have to disturb the nest, you might find that they really enjoy rebuilding it, especially if you scatter around lots of cardboard and kitchen/toilet paper for them to collect.

Mine love getting their cage cleaned, and will spend hours afterwards moving everything to where they want it (never where it was last!). I do always give them some extra bedding or ripped tissues, which they adore. I also hide the occasional treat in the cage, which helps encourage them to see it as a positive thing:-)
