Ok so i'm just wondering if these are ok to feed to Degus? i've also heard about yellow peas, are these the split yellow peas you can buy in the heathy eating section in the supermarkets?

Lentils and split peas are both safe, they are a bit high in protein so just bear that in mind, small quantities only.

Feel free to tell us more about it and what your girls think about it as you go along, if you would like. We used to have lots of talk about natural feeding.

Do you give it to them straight from the bag or do they have to be soaked or cooked first?

Straight from the bag I would think.

yes, just raw from the bag, presumably degus can cope with the compounds that trouble the human digestive system. My dwarf hamsters used to eat the odd green lentil with no stomach problems too.

The thing that worried me is that they swell in water, but then the Degus chew it up small

Good point but I think they shouldn't have enough in the stomach at once for it to make a difference.
