Hi, Newbie here. My name is Jenny and I'm researching whether or not to adopt some degus. At the moment I have a African Pygmy hedgehog who is so cute and active but not very cuddly. At the moment I'm a bit put off by the 100% wire cages at p@h and pellet food etc. So will be lurking a lot trying to research providing a natural environment (possibly even building a cage?) and diet enrichment etc. xx

Hi Jenny, Welcome to the forum Degus make great pets, especially if you have the will to put a little effort into getting housing, play and feeding arrangements sorted to keep you and them happy. They are still not necessarily cuddly, but can be affectionate in their way and are very rewarding. You can do lots of great things with home made cages or adapted large bought cages and the world is your oyster with feeding, they can benefit from a very varied diet. There's loads of info around the forum and we are happy to answer any questions so dive in

Thanks, I'm enjoying investigating I'm not expecting cuddly, but hopefully they'd like using me as a climbing frame. My hedgehog definitely spends much of her time out trying to climb into my hair I'd most like to watch the degus playing without having to stay up until gone midnight! So currently I'm focusing on reading the basics but I'm sure I'll have tons of questions soon...

Welcome jennyls ;D! One of mine in particular enjoys using me as a climbing frame, which is great except when I'm trying to get ready for work and end up getting sidetracked by your Stanley Manley And any questions are welcome, as moletteuk said, and I mean any. We've heard it all here I hope you find some interesting reading on here, there is A LOT of information on this forum! Welcome again

Hello Jennyls, and welcome to the forum!! This is a great place to investigate and learn, as well as asking questions . . . as you have already been finding out. We are pretty dedicated and in love with our degus, and sharing that passion with others is why we are here. I hope you find lots to guide you in your decisions, as well as to inspire you as you move forward!
