Very proud to announce that our baby goos were born last night came home from work to find her in labour so left her to it! My boyfriend fed them this morning after I left work work and saw 5 adorable little squigglies in the nest so he took this to send me at work: Came back tonight and fed again and got a look for myself, they're so adorable! one looks a wee bit smaller than the others but seems just as active so not too worried about the little guy!

So beautiful!!! It's amazing and rather astonishing how adventurous they are so early in life, isn't it? Despite the fact that we have been through a few litters now, it always suprises me that they start checking out their surroundings almost as soon as they can.
Momma is going to be very hungry, so giving her some sunflower seeds or a peanut would go down well with her!

Mama goo is spending lot as of time off the nest & the babies seem less active than they were in the video, and shes the only lactating female in there. Are there any signs I can check the babies for to make wure they're ok?

You want to make sure they are staying warm, so check their little bodies, if they feel cool they need to be warmed up. An old sock, filled with raw rice, tie a knot in the end, warm up in a microwave (don't make it too hot) and make sure you mush the rice around after you take it out to ensure that there are no hot spots that could harm or burn a pup. Then put it in with them, they will enjoy snuggling with it.
If you feel that mumma goo is not spending the time with the pups that she needs to, you may need to separate her from the other degus so that she is less distracted. Do you have a travel cage you could put her and the pups in for a few days? The pups really need to be feeding from her at least every two hours. Some new mums are a little unaware of their role and can neglect their litter. Keeping her apart from other degus (not the pups)for a few days can help her focus and learn what she needs to be doing. Also if you can watch her and see when she is over the pups and nursing them, slip her a couple of sunflower seeds, or a peanut to eat, which should help her stay long enough for the pups to have a good feed. It should help reinforce her urge to nurse them as well.
If you do place them in a separate cage, make sure that the bars are not wide, as pups are adept little escape artists. You may need to affix cardboard round the outsides of the cage to prevent them slipping out.

They're warm and are being about as acitve as in the video now, but as they'll be four days today should they be much more so? Seen more signs of her on the nest and the two younger girls (from her last litter we think) in the nest too so not wanting to disturb. Will check all the pups when we feed her later> She's not protective over the nest at all though I don't know if thats cos she trusts us or that she doesn't care that much!
The last litter she had she was in with another female who had a litter within days of her and one who we think was pregnant at the time too, so maybe shes just not used to doing all the work? lol

Could be she is inclined to leave the load to another degu alright. They are not overly protective of their nests . . . although one of our girls REALLY didn't like us looking into hers, so she would move all her babies to another spot once my daughter was in there looking all the pups over. She never got defensive, offensive, or aggresive, but she would move the whole kitandkaboodle. After about two weeks though, she just gave up.
With our pups, we noticed that it really differed between litters, how quickly active they became. Some started off pretty full of curiousity and pep, while others were happy to cuddle up and stay in a small area. So . . . they are probably doing very well, and there is nothing to be worried about.

They're beautiful!! Love pups!! However, be prepared, once they start eating solid foods, you'll really start going through it!!!

LOL! Yeah, once they start to take on speed, it's hard to catch them being still. That can be solved the more they eat solid foods though . . . they love treats just as much as their adults do. LOL!
