Hello Everyone,
As I have done more and more research on my Degu (as far as food, treats, ect) I have learned alot and was given some wrong information by some local pet store employees. I was buying regular Degu food and for the longest time I couldnt get it anymore. I asked what I should be feeding him because I know they are sugar limited. I was told to give him rabbit food (A big no no that I have learned) I am switching over to a guinea pig pellet (please correct me if there is something better) along with hay (which is was also not aware they should have). I have been scared to give our Degu anything human food like (as a treat) because I don't know if anything is safe or not. I will look something up and I get mixed answers. I was wondering if there is any type of quick reference guide I can quickly look at anytime I want to see if anything is safe or not. A list that might include vegetables, seeds, anything I might find outdoors growing or fruits (which I know alot of are not good so I've never given him any fruit). I don't want to deprive him of something he might enjoy, but I also don't want to harm him. I have tried two or three things that I know are okay but would really like to be able to give him a wide variety of things to eat. Any help or suggestions would be greatly apprecaited!

I've been sorting out our feeding information over the last couple of months so you are in luck, have a look through the sticky threads at the top of this section In particular the grain, seed, veg & nut charts sound like they are exactly what you are looking for Also, if you are in N America there is a full list of wild plants here , many of which also apply to Europe if you check the latin names. Also safe tree list , leaves, twigs and branches are great for degus. Also, overall feeding guide is coming soon, so check back in a few days
