I have recently entered the fab world of Degus....I have one whose tail is intact however the "bushy part" seems to have become a thin and missing a few hairs. Does anyone have any answers please. Thanks

Hi :-) welcome to the forum! It sounds like it could be a case of overgrooming, they can get a little carried away and start removing hairs from various parts of their bodies. Sometimes they're doing it to themselves and sometimes a cage mate can be grooming them a bit too much. I had one of my girls keep balding the other girl's tail for a while, she's a bossy madam but the hairs all grew back when she found something better to do. When you say the tail has become thin do you mean that you can see it taper off now the brush hairs have come away? It does look strange without the Pom Pom on.

Yes I can see the tail taper off, there is a bit of the Pom Pom effect left on the tail. Thanks for sharing your experience with me.

Hello, Daddy1572, and welcome to the forum!! It is lovely to have you join us! Blossombrooks has said what I would have said as well. Over grooming is something that can happen for many reasons, and sometimes they do it just because they can. At least . . . so it seems to me. Like my son that used to draw on the wall in the loo . . . he did it because he could. Grrrr . . . lol! The wall and I have survived the graphic, ink, and . . . OTHER substances . . . and your degu will be healthy and happy with or without his full plume. It's all mostly good. LOL!
