The following link I found is all the flowers that are edible for humans - there is a lot!! homecooking.about.com/library/weekly/blflowers.htmWould it be safe to say that the ones that are edible for us would be edible for degus? I'm especially interested in the bee balm - I saw seeds in the grocery store and the flowers are very unique and pretty. I have lavender and cilantro planted in my pots for the degus now that is is finally warm enough.

GOOD GRIEF!! No kidding there are a lot!! I love that list!! I'm not sure all would be edible by degus, but that is a very good question to find the answer to. Not sure my researching skills are up to it . . . lol . . . who am I kidding . . . my researching skills suck . . . but I like the question none the less.

Oooh very interesting If you have a look at the end of the 50% natural nutrition thread, DC & I are asking davx about what makes a plant safe or not for degus.....it's complicated is the answer! I recognise quite a lot of those flowers and the families, and I think a lot of the ones that don't have special notes on the human list are good for degus (but don't take my word for it!) I grew some bergamot/monarda/bee balm once, it only lived a year or two at max, despite being a perennial, but my garden was cold and wet in the winter.
