So I'm on a mission to make a nice dried mix for the googles as I have a lot of dandelions in the garden. Does anyone know if dock leaves are suitable to be dried and eaten by degu's? They are the big flat leaves that are always found near nettles and are supposedly supposed to cure the stings and I see them everywhere on my dog walks. The posh name for them is Rumex obtusifolius.

Yes, they are good! (They do contain some oxalic acid, so limit the quantity a bit.) Look out for ground elder too at the moment, there's lots of it growing through near me anyway. I picked a few nettle tops too a couple of weeks ago and they liked those too. The sting disappears when you dry them out, the sting on the stems takes a little longer to dry out, as my OH will testify when I asked him to check lol!

I'm making a face at you people with all the green and growing things!! We have tulips and daffodils just showing their tips, and that is almost it, so far. I've seen some "inappropriate word" willows . . . which are lovely to see, and one of the tree types that is usually very early to leaf is beginning to show a titch of green at all it's finger tips. BUT nothing I would be able to pop into the cage for the goos to munch on. Still making a face at you.

Hahahahaha, that made me chuckle. I love the auto correct on here for 'rude' words. Brilliant!

I attempted a dried mix this weekend, and I think it's turned out well, except for the tomatoes, but I may just pick them out. I still have space for dock leaves though, I'll add them tommorrow!! ;-)

What, pray tell, are "dock leaves?"

when we were young and we happened to get stung by stinging nettles, our mums used to tell us to find dock leaves, they are normally always near the nettles and if you picked a leaf and rubbed it on the sting, it would stop hurting ;D and it works!!! theyre kind of big spotty leaves

I picked a few dock leaves and dried them. I would like to report great sucess with them. They dried out very quicky, I just hang them on a sock drier thing and my degus enjoyed the few bits I gave them.
