The parents should take care of the babies. Just keep taking care of the parents as usual. (This happened to me – four females ended up being three females and one male. Now I have 16 degus in three huge four-storey cages.) In a day or so, the babies should start wandering about. Just make sure they cannot fall out of the cage. At 6-weeks, you need to separate the males from the females. (I have two cages of females and one cage of males.)
Your main issue is that you need to do something to prevent the Polo from becoming pregnant again. Hopefully you can get advice on this from someone else on this site with more experience.
Good luck! Watching the babies grow is a wonderful experience.

Generally speaking, you have to do one of two things. 1. Have your male neutered. 2. Separate your male and female for the first 3-4 days after the pups have been born. MARK the day of BIRTH on your calencar and count forward 20 days. Female degus have a 21 day cycle so on the 20th day you need to remove the male again for the next 3 days. Mark day 21 on your calendar again, and you will have to remove him for three days during days 21/1, 2, 3 so that you prevent future pregnancies.
Does this make sense?

I live in Canada so I don't know if they have them in the UK. The cage is made by a company called Midwest; the cage is called "Critter Nation" (there's a "Ferret Nation" cage as well but the bar spacing is too wide) and it's the double-unit that I have purchased (x3). I ordered the cages from a Canadian Supplier called Flowertown Chinchillas but in the US you can also get them at Pet Smart, the big pet store chain here in NA. How are your babies doing? How many are there? I hope you can keep them all. I had initially adopted my first four from the local animal shelter so that all four "sisters" could spend the rest of their lives together so when the babies were born (Azure's litter was still-born, Lilac's litter had 6 in it but one passed away, and Peridot's litter has 7) I vowed to do all I can to keep this extended family together. So far, so good. I'd really like to hear more about your grandbabies (I also think of myself as mama and grandmama to my goos). Please keep us updated as to their progress. ;D
