Evening Everyone ;D
My name is Kaz & i own 2 adorable Degus called Sooty & Sweep.
There story is one of Neglect!
I saw them advertised on a social network site for sale with all accessories including a "large" cage...free to good home...i thought why not take a look so me & my partner went to visit the lady.
When we got there we discovered the Degus living in a very small bird cage, when i decided this woman thought that was the idea of "large" cage we walked out with them..not looking back!
However Sweep was much smaller than Sooty so i decided to take them to the vet to get checked out...Sooty was fine, but Sweep...well he was very sick
Turned out Sweep had lost one of his bottom teeth & the other one had grown do far into his top jaw that his bottom jaw has been pushed off alignment therefore he couldnt eat...he also had a huge absess in the back of his mouth!...Vet wanted to put him to sleep...i refused!
So for the next couple of weeks we were syringe feeding him antibiotics, anti inflamatry & tesco organic baby food (as this was all we could get him to eat)...he weighed 150g ( 100g less than what he should weigh!!)
Good news though....he now weighs 207g...so hes getting there & he now eats solid food along with sooty...however he still eats his baby food once a day (as you can tell from the photo)..Vet says its fine for weight gain.
I love my Degus so much...on Monday 26th March we take delivery of 2 more males
