That is a really interesting record of all your degus. You have the patience of a saint! What a boat load of experience you have in such a short time. Truly amazing and overwhelming, and not something I would want to go through myself . . . can we pick your brains? So glad you have become such an active part of our forum!!

Feel free to ask away Degu convert, I will help if I can and if I don't know I will do my best to find out from a reliable source. There is still so much we don't know about these gorgeous creatures and pooling all the information that we each have can only help Degu's now and in the future and that can only be a good thing! I think that the patience is wearing a bit thin though.....Diezel is back in the Vet as of today as he is having trouble urinating after his sheath Op on Wednesday....me thinks that he has been playing 'Dr Diezel' again

Poor you & Diezel back at the vets again, they must have a special chair for you! Your experience is amazing and really could benefit lots of degus and their owners! We would love you to stick around the forum Your broken leg pinning is unique as far as I am aware, much more commonly reported is metacam and hope for the best, or amputation. Teeth problems are very commonly reported here, occasionally we hear that degus have had to be put to sleep because the vet/owners are struggling so much to treat the problem successfully, so your vets 'bonsai' technique sounds promising. Prolapsed penis also common, also seems difficult to get a good outcome if it doesn't right itself quickly. I've heard of inserting a stitch to fix it, sometimes successfully, sometimes not, but not heard of glue. A thread all about Diezel would be fab, hint hint LOL!

Thank you for the offer, Luna1 . . . I've got a sleep brain this morning so no questions popping up right now, but in the future I am sure I'll be thinking of things to discuss with you.
I'm so sorry to hear that Diezel is in distress again. Seems he is giving himself too much of a male degus particular style personal attention. I do hope that the solution will be simple and will also accomplish a complete end to the trouble. Have you ever tried him in a teeny tiny head cone so that he can't reach himself?

funnily enough, Diezel is the least.... huh hmmm....randy? Degu I know, apart from Bo. All the other boys do the 'I've been doing something I shouldn't bark' I think he has had 2 barks in 3 yrs ;D I always used to joke that if we ever decided to breed him he would need a diagram and some viagra! On a more serious note, he did have a small neck restraint on after the first procedure but he was so distressed that my Vet removed it before we left the surgery. He is on a different Anti-biotic as opposed to Baytril and this one I don't really like (Septrin) as it is very sugary and caused some very unpleasant behavioural side effects when Noz had it earlier this year, an evil necessity though. But he is passing urine, albeit whenever I watch him it makes MY eyes water He has some nasty swelling and bruising and is feeling very sorry for himself. Very unusual as he is one of my more stoical Goo's. Think I should open a rehabilitation residence for Degu's post surgery

It was very interesting to read about all of the health/behaviour, etc. issues that you had to deal with. I like the way you listed each degu by name and then wrote a synopsis for each. There is so much to learn from the experiences of others. Thanks for posting this.

I'm really hoping that the Septrin will be the final trick to get him back to full on healthy again. Poor Diezel!!! His bits must be seriously nasty.
