Hi,
I have the explorer cage and it comes with plastic trays in to put your bedding in. Now Loki has decided to chew the trays, and chew he has.
Is there anything i can do to stop him chewing them? Im ordering in some of the acrylic sheets to line the bottom and sides of the cage (the sides were my plan first to stop bedding going everywhere, but im worried hes going to cause himself harm.
What can i do?

We have a plastic wheel and bottle for our goos, everything else is wood. I try to give them new, fresh woodtreats like hazel and apple branches regularly, to keep them from going for the plastic. And they have so far. Thats really the only thing i can suggest, but if they want to chew the plastic despite whatever you do, take it out. Sometimes plastic is just too nice for them to resist chewing on lol. Good luck!

Hmm, see there is no real reason for him to chew the plastic. I have loads of wooden things everywhere from shelves, to fiddlesticks bridges, to tree branches and dangley 'beaded' btoys, to huts and houses, i even have some of the reinforced cardboard shapes that you get in parcels mines from a shredder.
See the problem is if i take the tray out their bedding will just fall straight through the bars and they will be walking on the bars which isnt good, plus they are likely to have the odd slip through of feet which i wouldnt want them to do incase of accidents.
What do you think to perhaps getting some acrylic sheeting and have it so it totally fills the bottom, completely flat no edging that they can get to to line the bottom (for safety and cleanliness) then perhaps line it with cardboard, and their bedding?
Oh i also got my order of Finacard through! Lucky really considering cleaning day was today, and it turned up before i got back from work! Woop!

Hi silvergerbil, I would say if you're heading out to buy acrylic sheeting which is usually expensive why not try to get metal sheeting instead? It can't be chewed, will easily be removed and cleaned. Make sure not to get aluminium as I think they can chew that but steel would be strong. If there are any fabricators/welders near you they might sell you some offcuts and prob sort the edges out so they aren't sharp. :-)

Hiya, i will give a look for the metal. I had a look on the acrylic website and to get all the bits i want to do my cage (round the edges outside of course) to minimise bedding spillage and for curiosity to do both the bases all together will be £30 incl £8 postage x

I have made wooden replacements for the plastic trays. Here are a couple of pictures of the cage so you can see what I mean Top half Bottom half The trays are approximately 4" deep and have fairly thin plywood bases. I have stuck vinyl tiles in the bottom of the trays so they are more pee-resistant. They've been in the cage about three months now and while some of the edges have been chewed they haven't been anywhere near destroyed.
