there is a thread on here about making wheels, some people where on about scateboard wheels, and some other stuff, but someone made one with a sweet tin, drilled a hole in the centre, put a screw through it, into a piece of wood, loosely, then secure the small piece of wood, to the cage, with a metal bracket, was really good, and was tempted to try myself, but never got round to it x

I made 2 out of roses/quality st tins, attached to a bit of wood, with a Lazy Suzy bearing on the back to attach to the cage. A bit of WD40 on the bearing and it is relatively quiet too!!!
I've been looking for a larger tin like a cake tin or something so they can both play in one at the same time!!

We made one out of a flange bearing and a roses tin. The bearing is rather over-engineered - it's big and heavy, but it seems to work well, and no welding required. I've got a dog bowl and another bearing as a work in progress, I'll post on here if/when we finish it.

good idea.... John Hopewell got there a long time ago then decided to overcharge as is his usual style. Yep. Decided £40 per wheel is a little bit extortionate!

Once the 12" cake tin arrives I'll be building my own wheel. Two thrust bearings, a bit of Araldite (not near the goos) and a nut and bolt and we should be there. I'll keep you posted, and provide a picture diary. lol

Now I've packed the bearings with grease it's working a lot better. Think I've still got some minor amendments to make on it before it's degu friendly.

Hi woodchip, Well done on making a wheel. A good home made one is always better than anything you can find in a shop. I would be interested in seeing a photo of your wheel. Here is a link to the ones I make. Kat X

It looks a bit "Heath Robinson" compared to yours, Kat. However, if anything breaks on it I can now fix it myself, unlike those lame plastic ones.
