I'm looking into making my own wheel, as I can't find an affordable solid metal one. I'm using the instructions found on www.degutopia.co.uk/ , and, while I know the wheel should be 12" diameter, how thick should it be? I'm thinking 4" would be good, but would that allow room for my two girls to run together? Right now the wheel they have is not really suitable.

Have you had a look at the threads on here about making a wheel? I tried one with a lazy susan bearing like the one on degutopia, but when I attached the wheel part it just warped the bearing. I've made a wheel successfully with a flange bearing, and others on here have made them with scooter wheels, skateboard wheels, and recycling broken Karlie Wonderland wheels. Let us know how you get on
