below are a few pics of how I've divided Erics cage ready for his new friends tomorrow! I've included few parts of the mesh uncovered so they'll be able to interact with each other and I've left a hole under the black box so that when theyre ready to live togeather (fingers crossed) I can just remove the box and they can move between the levels as they please. I've got another pouch hammock coming in the post from hammockyhammocks.com and ill pick up another wheel and bottle for the 2 newbies who will be living in the bottom layer. I would appreciate any suggestions of anything I may have forgotten

I can't make out the division in your pictures. I don't think I would have little holes through wish they can interact, however, at least not at first, and maybe not at all. They will manage to interact fairly well with the mesh between them, but you don't want to give them an opportunity to grab another by the head and inflict harm that could be fatal. If you can, block up those holes for the time being.

degutopia's introductions guide says "Note that the mesh divide should be open in places to allow interactions and scents to pass across it, although you should use ceramic tiles or cardboard to line sections of it to avoid the risk of bumblefoot"

I think that means if you're using cardboard on top of the mesh to protect from bumble foot, then you should cut some holes in the carboard perhaps so they can see each other and smell each other. That's my interpretation anyway and what I'd do if I were dividing a cage horizontally. I think vertically is better for any introduction though as they can see each other better. Awesome cage by the way. I have the same one

Oh I know! Tell me about it! It's a bloody wonderful cage, but when I first set it up I thought "well, they're just going to chew straight through that and get out, aren't they?!" lol. I ended up covering the tray with mesh and then covering the mesh with carboard. Such a pain. I'm going be buying wood soon to make proper levels for the cage so I'm just going to line the bottom with a plank of wood and throw the tray away.
