And it wouldn't fit up the stairs, game over. Well luckily I don't give up that easily, I will be cutting it in half then fixing it back together in my room. It's all part of my £40 build which will cost more as I'm using perspex. Currently I've got the guts of my cage, need my sliders and perspex. I couldn't tell you how much is cost so far as instead of going to wickes me and my ole' man went to the joiners we're friends with (there on the same complex my dad works) and told them we were after some 1/2" MDF, which he then went and cut into a flat pack style kit for us, and we're paying Monday. Once I was home we glued and screwed it all together, Measuring 4' Tall x 3'6" Wide and 2' Deep i think my incoming Goo's will be happy, and after all that I've still got half a full sheet to make shelving and such. A couple of things: 1) I heard that the self adhesive laminated squares in poundland are good for lining the floor, is it a good idea? 2) I'm going to add a hanging basket into the cage, I found one made from weaved wood, what are the chances of the wood being Goo friendly? It doesn't state what wood it is, although from examining the grain and the feel of it, i think it's a softwood. And ONE last thing, what do you all think of the names Scrat and Diego? Reece.

omg! We want pics please.
Love the names too lol.
Ok, for your questions. I have used the same tiles, and they where fine, really easy to keep clean, I wouldn't risk the wood, as you don't know what it is, but, you could buy a normal hanging basket, from the pound shop, and cover it with fleece, there is a thread on here, somewhere, where some one did the same thing.
Oh and one last thing, if your going to use MDF for shelves you'll need to put a strip of kiln dried pine, in the bare edge, as your goo's will chew it xxx

I can take some pictures tomorrow, it's currently hiding in the garage with my car. Yeah i saw the hanging basket fleece thingy, i'll be sure to make one, i'll probably change the shape from a bowl and make it less deep. Yeah i'll be sure to add some pine. I'm going to get some sisal tomorrow as well. I need to make a wheel, get them a suspended bowl and but bedding. Then once my sliders are here and perspex purchased, It will be time to go goo hunting!!

I've just bought some cheap vinyl adhesive tiles from B&Q and was wondering the same thing. Is it ok if they chew them a little Nicky? (I know they stick to the floor really well, but my guys are quite determined to chew everything and they'll probably find a way.... is that safe?)

mine didn't chew them, but i did make sure they fitted the mesh very well, so there wasn't any gaps, but.............i would imagie it wouldn't be very good for them, due to the glue? But i know a few other members have used them, and never read any where on here, that they caused problems.
Got to be honest and say i love my ceramic tiles lol xxx

That's what I wanted, but me being me, I wanted black ones and they were £15 for a pack of six (that covered one square meter). I'd have to cut them down to size to make them fit in the cage and I have no idea how to cut ceramic tiles! lol.

And ONE last thing, what do you all think of the names Scrat and Diego? Wow thats messed up. lol When I got my first degu, he was a rescue from pets at home. His name was diego and I changed it to scrat. What are the chances? I like those names but be prepared to be flexable. As you get to know your degus another name might just pop out at you and fit with the degus personality better. Thats what has happened for me. However I do have one who doesnt have a name yet so it doesnt always work.

A late update here, be wary my 'W' key is starting to break and my full stop and up and down arrows don't work at all so be prepared for mistakes.
SO.. my cage didn't fit up the stairs but after cutting it down and fixing it together again upstairs it's finally here. It takes up most of my room but it will be worth it.
I only need my sliders and glass as i bought a few things for the interior, made some shelves and need to make my ladders and fleece hanging basket which i have the materials for!
