Hi, I was in asda the other day and spotted some planters that were reduced to £2 and thought they would be perfect for the degus. They were in pink and orange or for an extra £1, bronze coloured. I thought I would take some photos of scrat and gerrard modeling it. I hope the boys dont mind but I've been "pinking up" the cage. lol I have just bought some fleece and pink cupcake material to make hammocks with too. Kat x

Haha! It's a good name for a Betta Fish! My boy's called Tarquin Well, his full name is Sir Tarquin William Taylor, lol. He's bright red and he's starting to develope blue on the edge of all of his fins. Out of curiosity, what size tank do you keep her in? Is she a picky eater too? Tarquin's so fussy. He'll only eat blood worms.... naughty little thing.

Tarquin is a great name, I love it. Betty will only eat bloodworms too. We use the frozen ones and just drop in a few at a time. He is in a 60 litre tank with a few corys and some cameroon armoured shrimp.

Awww! He's so sweet! Wow... sounds like he's got it sorted in a 60ltr:) I'll post a picture or Tarquin later. He's in five gallon, but it's just him on his own. Looking at some of the 'Betta Boxes' that are 1.3 litrs that some people keep their fish in, Tarquin's got it good too I've just ordered some betta pellets for him, so hopefully he might start eating those!

Wow, what beautiful fish you both have!
Oh and I love the dust bath. I'm sure the boys don't mind the colour at all, they are manly enough to take it.
I have 3 lava ledge swings for my boys, one in pink, one in lilac and one in blue. But they show how manly they are by chewing them like crazy!

I think those make a brilliant bath! The the color is very pretty. I love both of your fish! I have always thought betta fish are so beautiful. I just love all the many colors they can be. I hate seeing them in the pet stores though. Here they keep them in these little clear plastic cups. The poor fish!! How on earth can they have enough oxygen in such a little drop of water?!? I'm so glad that the two of you have your beautiful boys in REAL tanks worthy of them. Well done!

You should buy some "cling film" type stickers that you could put around the outside to really get him going. Like butterflies and tulips and anything really girlie. LOL! I would want a video of that! LOL!

People keep them in such small amounts of water because they live in rice paddies. They are air breathers and they can survive in small spaces, doesn't mean they should. Most pet shops over here keep them in plastic bags inside larger fish tanks! Some pet shops are learning though. They can be kept in display tanks with other fish. They just have to be the right fish that they won't attack. The shop I got Tarquin from was one of those pet shops, unfortunately they were keeping him with Zebra Danios, which are cold water fish! He's tropical They were keeping the Danios in tropical water, which was once thought to ke ok (it was presummed that Danios could live in both cold and warm water) they've since been proven to be cold water fish. Thankfully, they're the most hardy fish EVER, so they can survive in warmer water.... again, doesn't mean they should. It would be nice if pet shops could keep up
