Very worried about my female 2-year old Degu. Her female buddy died 3 weeks ago so I've been paying her close attention, giving her lots of affection. Let her out to run around my apartment while I was at work & just picked her up & I've noticed she's making a sinusy sound (best described as a squelsh) & the whites of one of her eyes has become swollen & bloodshot. Can't find an exact description for this anywhere & I seem to know more about them than my vet who thinks she's a hamster, according to what she's 'advised' in the past.
Any help massively appreciated & thank you very much for your resource for we Degu lovers.

An apartment can be a very dangerous place for a degu if it falls down somewhere or gnaw the wrong thing. Your degu seems to be injured and in pain. Bring it to the vet. It does not matter how experienced she is with degus. Injuries are treated alike. It does not matter if the patient is a degu or a hamster. And they do not need different pain medication either.

I too, feel that she needs to be seen by a vet. To me it sounds as though she has come into contact with some kind of chemical or something that has caused her great distress. Or she may have an infection in her sinuses. Either way, these conditions much be treated by your vet.
