I had to tell this one. I had read about putting treats in an eggbox and letting the good find their way in to it. I put some herbs, a few oats and pumpkin seeds in an eggbox and put it in the cage. To my dismay, they showed little interest apart from the mum having a little sniff and a nudge of it. I waited a few hours and being impatient for more great entertainment from them, thought i would encourage them by opening the eggbox, showing them whats in it and giving them a tiny treat each. I then closed the box again. Rather than dash over to the box and work out how to open it or destroy it, amazingly Molly and Dinky took an end each and carried it over to me, then stared and chirped at me til I opened it again and hand fed them! I am trying to work out whether the goos or me are in charge here, but I think I know the answer!!!

I will have to take some pics. Its so great that they have got used to me. They were collecting tissue from me yesterday for their fanatical bed making. so I put some in my shirt pocket and they kept running back to me and collecting it from me

Does anyone else have this? The goos have lots of tubes and toys etc and they line them up so they are all facing exactly the same way and are perfectly in line! I am beginning to wonder if they are obsessive!!

Mine don't do that. But there's been a study done on degu's where they are able to stack chinese boxes.

Have you ever thought of trying them out on a maze? They are certainly very smart little goos!! I just have to laugh at them bringing the box to you, through mutual effort, and telling you they required more treats from your hands. LOL!! TOO smart!

That may be a good idea. I could go in with them and see them laugh at me when they have got out and I am still puzzling!

I am beginning to wonder if they are obsessive!! Our have a selection of toys, tubes, chews and so on which when put on the top level of their home - littered all around on shelves, one side of the cage etc - drag it all to the left hand side and stack it up. All cardboard/paper and the like goes downstairs into the nesting box and the rest is too big to fit down the hole sod gets stacked out/in the way. Relentlessly.

What I'm trying to do with my degus (slowly as they are still babies) is eventually have a mini agility course (like they do with dogs) and have them run it and all the obstacles. They already know "over" aka for jumps. Right now they are using my old grand champion horse jumps although we are stilling working on jumping instead of climbing over I can't help not teaching tricks ... my almost 5 year old cat knows close to 25 commands now. I bet your goos would love learning some tricks Since they are already so smart!!

I think once they trust you they like to entertain and of course be rewarded. They are so lovely. I am so glad I got them
