Hiya I have four Degus, Honey, Chancy, Bubble and Squeak, they all seem to be getting on really well and they groom each other and they are always cuddling. Well, I noticed that Chancy and Honey (my two older ones) have got little stumps at the end of their tails where they have been pulling each other around by them (they have done this ever since I had them 1 ½ years), but Bubble who is a not the smallest and is very confident has recently had her tail come off quite significantly! I am keeping an eye on her and there doesn't seem to be any fighting in the cage but this does concern me. Her tail has healed very well but I am worried. Can anyone tell me why they are doing this to each other? Squeek by the way is the only one that has a lovely long normal tail and she is shall I say the "runt of the litter"! Advice would be much appreciated. Cheers Lena

my last 2 degus had the same problem, lovely fluffy tails then suddenly, gone.i had 2 females,n thought they were fighting, but i think their tails just dropped off, as someone else had the same problem. many adult degus do not have the fluffy tail, try looking at some photos and see. i dont think there is any thing to worry about, as long as its healing nicely.

Thanks for replying so quick cos I was worried. The two older degus (Chancy and Honey) still have the fuzzy bit but looking at Bubble today she just has a stump and no fuzzy bit left, I just feel a bit sorry for her as she is so pretty apart from a stumpy tail!
